Wonderful early 19th century French Indienne cotton quilt with luscious multi-coloured flowers on meandering branches against a slightly faded saffron yellow ground.A gorgeous example of the use of overprinting to obtain dense layers of colours.

Some old stitched repairs and tiny splits where there is purple due to the mangannese dye and a fair amount of wisps of wool escapingalong the quilt's edge.
